How This Site Works: Prices, Dealers, and What We Do (and Don't Do)

This page explains what this site is, how it operates, and what you should (and shouldn't) expect from it. We believe in being transparent about our approach, limitations, and purpose.

What This Site Is

UK Bullion Guide is an independent, UK-focused information resource about buying physical gold and silver. Our aim is to provide practical, educational content that helps people understand their options without pressure or promotion.

We focus on three main areas:

  • Price context: Showing indicative gold and silver prices in GBP, with explanations of what spot prices mean and how they relate to what you actually pay when buying from dealers.
  • Educational guides: Explaining products, tax considerations, how to think about coins versus bars, how to reduce the risk of counterfeits, and other practical topics relevant to UK buyers.
  • Neutral dealer information: Providing factual profiles of UK bullion dealers without endorsement, ranking, or affiliate relationships.

We do not sell bullion. We do not take payment from dealers for placement or favourable coverage. We do not provide financial advice.

What This Site Is Not

To set appropriate expectations, here is what this site does not do:

  • We are not a bullion dealer. We do not buy or sell gold, silver, or any other precious metals. We have no commercial relationship with buyers or sellers.
  • We are not a financial advisory service. Nothing on this site constitutes investment advice, tax advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any product. We provide information; you make your own decisions.
  • We do not guarantee best prices. The prices we show are indicative spot prices, not dealer prices. We do not compare dealer prices in real time, and we cannot tell you where to find the cheapest gold or silver on any given day.
  • We are not a price comparison service. While we provide price context, we do not scrape or aggregate live dealer prices. For current retail prices, you should check directly with dealers.

How Prices Are Shown

The prices displayed on our Gold Price and Silver Price pages are indicative spot prices in British pounds (GBP). These are based on international market data converted to GBP.

What spot prices represent

Spot prices reflect the current wholesale market price for gold or silver in large quantities. They are a reference point, not the price you will pay when buying physical bullion from a dealer.

Why dealer prices differ

When you buy from a dealer, you will pay more than the spot price. The difference includes:

  • Fabrication costs (minting coins or refining bars)
  • The dealer's operating costs and margin
  • Delivery and insurance
  • VAT (for silver, this adds 20% to the price)

This is why our prices should be understood as context, not as the price you will actually pay.

Timestamps and updates

Prices on this site are updated periodically. Each price display includes a timestamp showing when the data was last refreshed. Prices are not real-time and should not be used for trading decisions or as a substitute for checking current dealer prices.

How Dealers Are Covered

Our dealer pages provide neutral, factual information about UK bullion dealers. Our approach is based on several principles:

No paid placement

We do not accept payment from dealers for inclusion, positioning, or favourable coverage. The order in which dealers appear, and the content of their profiles, is not influenced by commercial relationships.

No "best dealer" claims

We do not rank dealers or claim that any particular dealer is "best" or "cheapest." Different dealers suit different buyers depending on factors such as product selection, delivery options, minimum order sizes, and personal preferences.

Factual profiles

Dealer profiles focus on factual information: what they sell, where they're based, how they operate, and any notable features of their service. We try to be accurate and balanced, but we encourage you to verify details directly with dealers before making purchases.

How Local Buying Guides Work

Our local buying guides provide location-aware context for people searching for information about buying precious metals in specific UK towns and cities.

The reality of local availability

An important fact we are transparent about: most UK towns do not have dedicated physical bullion dealers. This is simply the reality of the market. Precious metals retail is a specialist industry, and most dealers operate primarily online with delivery by secure courier.

What local guides provide

Rather than pretending local dealers exist where they don't, our local guides:

  • Acknowledge the lack of physical dealers honestly
  • Explain how online purchasing and insured delivery works
  • Provide delivery context specific to the area (postcodes, typical timelines)
  • Link to relevant national dealer information
  • Offer practical guidance for buyers in that location

Not directories

Local guides are not directories of local businesses. They are educational resources that help people understand their realistic options for buying gold and silver, given where they live.

Limitations and Responsibility

We try to be accurate, but we have limitations:

  • Information may become outdated. Prices change constantly. Dealer policies and offerings change. Tax rules can be amended. We update content periodically, but cannot guarantee everything is current at any given moment.
  • We cannot verify everything. We rely on publicly available information and reasonable research. We cannot independently verify every claim made by dealers or confirm every detail of their operations.
  • We are not experts in your situation. General educational information cannot account for your personal circumstances, tax position, investment goals, or risk tolerance.

For these reasons, we encourage you to:

  • Verify important details directly with dealers or official sources
  • Consult qualified professionals for tax or investment advice
  • Use this site as one input among many in your research
  • Make your own informed decisions

Summary

This site exists to provide helpful, neutral information about buying gold and silver in the UK. We do not sell anything, we do not rank or endorse dealers, and we do not provide financial advice. We aim to be transparent, accurate, and useful—but we have limitations, and you should always verify important details and make your own decisions.
